Dr. Thompson recently rejoined the IEMS faculty as the IEMS Undergraduate Program Coordinator and instructor. He received his B.S.I.E. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1966 and his M.S.E. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in 1968 and 1970 respectively. Dr. Thompson first came to UCF in 1995 after a 23-year career with Honeywell Aerospace and served 9 years on the IEMS faculty. In addition to teaching at UCF, he served in various administrative roles including Assistant Chair, Undergraduate Advisor and Graduate Advisor. From 2004-2008 he was on the faculty at Arizona State University serving as Director of Graduate Programs in the Industrial Engineering Department and had various teaching assignments. His industrial experience includes various technical and management positions in industrial engineering, facilities, materials management and strategic planning. He was instrumental in establishing new Honeywell facilities in Tempe, AZ; Tucson, AZ and the Republic of Singapore. Areas of expertise include work design, facilities, production systems, quality management, project management, cost systems and healthcare systems improvement. He has served the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) at the local, regional and national levels and is an IIE Fellow. From 2006-2008 he served on the Board of Trustees of Alpha Pi Mu (IE Honorary Society).He is a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida and is certified by ASQ as a Six-Sigma Black Belt. He has received awards for both teaching and advising at UCF. |
