Alumnus Lieutenant Colonel Greg Fortier takes Command

IEMS Distinguished Alumnus, Lieutenant Colonel Greg Fortier took over as the 45th Commander of the United States Naval Test Pilot School on October 18, 2013. IEMS instructor, Mark Calabrese, attended the ceremony as a guest at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland.

LTC Fortier holds Bachelors of Science in Operations Research from the United States Military Academy and a Masters of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida.


Anastasia Angelopoulou and Konstantinos Mykoniatis, IEMS PhD students, participated in the SVAD PREMIERE & EXHIBITION 2013 with the project 'UCF Smart Mailbox.' Their project won the Best of Show Award.

Tatiana Viecco receives 2013 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Tatiana Viecco was selected to receive a 2013 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Fellowship. She was selected based on her outstanding abilities and accomplishments, as well as her potential to contribute to strengthening the vitality of the US science and engineering enterprise. NSF received over 13,000 applications for the 2013 competition, and made only 2,000 award offers. Tatiana will be graduating from UCF this Spring.

Dr. Christopher Geiger named IIE Student Chapter Outstanding Faculty Advisor

Congratulations Dr. Christopher Geiger, on being named IIE Student Chapter Outstanding Faculty Advisor Southeast Region in 2013! This award recognizes advisors that have demonstrated substantial contributions to the chapter by supporting officers and student activities through excellence as a teacher, advisor, and mentor. Dr. Jennifer Pazour wins prestigious 2013 Young Investigator Award from ONR

Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Pazour who was awarded the prestigious 2013 Young Investigator Award from ONR. The receipt of this award is an outstanding recognition as one of the top up and coming young faculty in the nation. This is among only 16 awards made nationwide awarded to young faculty members who show exceptional promise for doing creative research.

IEMS Ranked No. 35 Industrial Engineering Grad Program by U.S. News for 2014

The Industrial Engineering graduate program has earned a top-40 ranking in the U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools guide.

The program placed No. 35 in the nation in rankings for Best Grad Schools, up 13 spots from last year.

UCF IIE Student Chapter Technical Paper Wins 1st Place at 2013 IIE Southeast Regional Conference

Congratulations to IEMS undergraduate students Stefan Calle, Geoffrey Cox, Brandon Finley, Jose Sang, Patricia Truax, and Colton Younger! The students’ technical paper won 1st place in the Undergraduate Student Technical Paper Competition held at the 2013 IIE Southeast Regional Conference hosted by the University of Miami IIE Chapter in Coral Gables, FL Feb 28-Mar 3.

Dr. Haitham Bahaitham was selected to receive the 2011-2012 University Award for the Outstanding Dissertation. His dissertation titled “A Framework for Quantifying Sustainability of Lean Implementation in Healthcare Organizations” was recognized for exemplary research in the field of Industrial Engineering.

Dr. Christopher D. Geiger Receives the CECS 2012 Award for Excellence in Professional Service

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher D. Geiger, as he is one of two recipients of the 2012 Award for Excellence in Professional Service for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. This award recognizes faculty members within the College who have demonstrated a record of excellence in service to the University and to their profession. Dr. Geiger will be honored along with the other student and faculty recipients of excellence awards at the UCF Founder’s Day Convocation on April 4, 2012.
